Ponderings on Rust in the Linux kernel

I only found out about this recently, and I'm deeply intrigued. Specifically: why is Linus fairly neutral on Rust (minus the whole runtime panics are really bad criticism) but so against C++ as an addition to the Linux kernel? What separates them? Is it the language itself, or its userbase? I know Linus doesn't like a lot of C++ Devs, and iirc has criticised the language itself in the past - do you think Rust's higher learning curve means that this is less prevalent?

What are your thoughts?
